Barry H. Soloway is a high tech executive with extensive accomplishments in the telecom, Internet,  semiconductor and photonics industries.  Experienced in product development (systems, hardware and software), marketing, manufacturing, quality, finance and administration.  Successfully led turnarounds, startups and revitalization of mature companies.  Core competence is the discipline of execution: blending strategy with pragmatics, energizing people and achieving agreed to results.

In 1999, Barry founded Management Pragmatics LLC, a consultancy through which he serves as a senior executive for high tech startups and turnarounds.  His role is to bring a wealth of industrial strength knowledge and experience to a company in transition.  Barry focuses the management team on defining the value proposition for the company, establishing its strategic direction, and establishing success metrics.  He then steers the day-to-day decisions that will shape the future success of the enterprise.  During this period, he led the successful incubation of four companies: Continuum Photonics (piezoelectric beam steering optical switch), Glimmerglass Networks (MEMS-based optical switch), Novalux (semiconductor lasers) and Sourcemine (Internet-based collaboration workspace).

Prior to founding Management Pragmatics, Barry served as  Sr. VP Operations & Development for TimePlex, a turnaround with sales of $175 million.   Manufacturing voice and data switches and providing Network Operations Centers for ILEC's CLEC's and private enterprises, Barry refocused, resized, and rebuilt worldwide engineering, marketing and manufacturing operations, acquired and integrated new operations and confronted the challenges of emerging technologies and rapidly evolving markets.  Earlier, as Division General Manager with ITT, he started up two of the five divisions at its corporate Advanced Technology Center, achieving a high success rate in technology development and transfer within a multi-national environment.   Barry began his career with Bell Labs, leading the development of many of the first integrated circuits to be employed in telecommunication systems.  He earned an MSEE from New York University with specialization in solid-state physics, and a BSEE from Fairleigh Dickinson University.

Based on his broad background in technology transfer among companies and with universities, Barry was (a) invited to join the Board of Advisors of Arizona State University and (b) appointed to the Governor's Council on Innovation and Technology, an Arizona initiative to develop and advocate programs and policies that will encourage the growth of a technology-based economy.
